I still remember eating my first flammkuche in Budapest, it was amazing! It was like the light-version of a pizza, and well.. I can’t get enough of pizza so just a little bit of variation is more than welcome! We’ve finally figured out how to make them ourselves, enjoy!

Flammkuchen with bacon & onion

  • 100 ml water
  • 350 gr flour
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Pinch salt


  • 2 onions
  • 150 gr bacon
  • 125 gr sour cream
  • 125 gr creme fraiche


  • Mix all the ingredients for the dough together and keep on kneading for a while. Is it still too sticky? Just add some more flour. Is it too dry? Add some water.
  • Wrap it in cling foil and save it in the fridge for half an hour. In the mean time you can mix the creme fraiche with the sour cream and cut the onions. Heat the oven on 180 degrees.
  • Split your dough ball in two and roll them until they are thin and even. Place them on the baking tray and smear with the cream mixture. Sprinkle some onions and later the bacon on top.
  • Bake in 30 minutes and bon appetit!
